Liza Bernstein

Liza is pursuing her PhD in Religious Studies with a focus in Rabbinics. She is most interested in investigating how the rabbis use gender, the body, and the act of sex to form identities and hierarchies within the rabbinic world. In her research, Liza incorporates gender theory, literary theory, and source criticism. Liza graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017 with a B.A. in Political Science and a concentration in political theory. She's also spent time studying Talmud at the Conservative Yeshiva and Hadar Institute. When Liza is not perpetually behind in Daf Yomi, she spends most of her time knitting chunky sweaters (the cute kind, not the itchy mothball kind, she promises!) while watching Survivor.
